One of my favorite images from our trip. I have always wanted to see this view of Holy Cross. Many religious groups make this a “pilgrimage”. There is a shelter here, just off to the left that you can’t see. The reason this is called Holy Cross, there is a cross that is formed by the snow in the center of the mountain. You can only usually see it in June. This was the start of a great day in the mountains, by “day”, I mean 11.5 hours of hiking!!

Edit: I have included the very first image taken of Holy Cross. This was instrumental in getting folks interested into the region. Many people had heard of this mountain, but with photographic proof, it was an inspiration for millions to make the trek to view this. The photographer was William Henry Jackson.
